End of the Year Report (Spring 2024)
Spring 2024
Report by Melanie Cham (’24)
This Spring, the EAL worked on projects related to 3D scanning, putting 3D models onto Wesleyan’s new SketchFab website, and planning for outreach events including the open house and mammoth hunt. The 3D scanning group worked on scanning fossil specimens for the Joe Webb Peoples Museum. The scanned fossils included a dinosaur footprint, a Titanotherium proutii tooth, and an Oreodon skull.

These scans will be used to make press molds for the Middletown Tunnel Vision Project. The 3D scanning group also helped scan spoons for the African Material Cultures @Wes Initiative. The Digitization Group has been uploading 3D models of our collections to SketchFab. You can view those models here.
This semester, EAL also helped organize the annual Archaeology and Collections Public Open House. We hosted stations centered around zooarchaeology, paleoethnobotany, and paleoanthropology. We also did a 3D scanning demonstration. Over 200 people attended the event! The EAL also helped organize the Mammoth Hunt with atatls.
